The Khalsa was founded by the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, on Vaisakhi day, 13 April 1699 at Anandpur Sahib. He administered Amrit (nectar) to the Panj Pyare (Five Beloved Ones) and then received it from them, creating a casteless, militarised brotherhood bound by the Five Ks. Guru Nanak founded Sikhism; Guru Angad developed Gurmukhi; Guru Tegh Bahadur was the ninth Guru — none initiated the Khalsa.
